Twenty-year-old Californian Corey Day claimed his second career NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series victory Saturday at Dover Motor Speedway, winning the BetRivers 200 in his first start at the track.
Day's No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet took the lead from championship leader Justin Allgaier with four laps remaining, capitalizing on a lapped car that split the two drivers and allowed Day to pull ahead. He went on to win by 0.461 seconds.
Allgaier, a series-best three-race winner this season, had led a race-high 71 laps and appeared on his way to victory before the late-race sequence. Despite the runner-up finish, he extended his points lead to 175 over Sheldon Creed, who finished 18th.
Day's win follows his first career victory three weeks ago at Talladega. Mentored by reigning Cup Series champion Kyle Larson, who watched from the pit stand, Day said this victory felt especially earned.
Sam Mayer finished third, followed by William Sawalich and Austin Hill. Ross Chastain led 68 laps before spinning out at mid-race.
